Interpersonal communication describes the encoding of a thought into language by a sender and the decoding of this language into thoughts by a receiver. This process is always fragile, prone to misunderstandings and cannot succeed without errors.

Spoken or written language is often used as the medium for transmitting a thought. Artists use their medium, art, for this, but the principle remains the same: the process of encoding and decoding is influenced and determined by a myriad of parameters, so that the sender's thought and the receiver's thought cannot be the same.

DE / CODE consists of a sequence of photos. These are broken down into RGB videos, i.e. red, green and blue, the three basic colours of graphism, from which all other colours can be generated – the images are coded in RGB.

By looking through the three semi-transparent screens, it is theoretically possible, but practically impossible, to reassemble the original images – and thus decode the RGB images into original images.
